From the Ladies County President: Fizz Mzce
Please will you kindly put something on the website to cover a very successful event yesterday? We raised £606.50 for our two charities, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Alzheimer’s Support Devizes and in doing so 64 lady bowlers really enjoyed themselves - the bar takings will be testament to this!
A very important bit of info that raised nearly half the money, that NWBC waived the rink fees for charity.
Details of the day:
16 teams of 4 entered paying £11 per player in advance. We initially had two visitors and on the day ended with 4 as two teams used a 5th member.
On arrival team leaders picked for team letter, 8 in Group 1 and 8 in Group 2 to play 7 ends in 1 hour of play with an hour sitting out - this encouraged all the drinking!
Immediately before play everyone played a spider with a really lovely quirky result: Nearest the spider won a bottle of wine - Ellen Stiles; nearest the jack - Ellen’s granddaughter Ellise who won a large box of Maltesers and younger sister little Eloise was third and was given the spider to keep! The bowling took the form of a gala with the booby being awarded to a team of ladies from Stratton Churchway who we discovered actually did a lot better - sadly they entered their score results on the wrong side of their scorecard! Well done to the winning team who were Ellise, Nicky, Marguerite and Bev.
During the afternoon raffle tickets were sold, plus 1-100 tickets for a large bottle of brandy donated by Joan Coleman.
By the end of play everyone was starving so our roast turkey with seasonal vegetables followed by May’s cheesecake was very well received. Ann Roberts-Phare played the tune of Jingle Bells for a sung grace which worked very well.
After our meal Tony Hulbert kindly auctioned off the flower arrangements on each table causing plenty of fun and laughter.
Last but by no means least was a huge raffle consisting of wonderful gifts donated by the players. We used three runners viz Sheila Garlick, Lyn Brown and Marie Greenwood but even this took some while and we had to foregoing our carol singing sessions as everyone was anxious to journey home, especially as we had teams from all over Wiltshire.
I haven’t mentioned all the wonderful outfits but I think they are obvious from the group photograph!
Proceedings finished just before 8 pm and our treasurer notified me today of the total £606.50 raised for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Alzheimer’s Support Devizes.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the day, that’s everyone!
