Summer Bowls - Indoors

Summer Indoor Bowls 2025

Over the last few years, we have noticed an increasing number of members turning up to bowl indoors during the summer.  Last summer, we had a number of organised drives and roll-ups taking place and we hope that these will continue into 2025 and beyond.  Specifically,

  • Mondays     4 to 6pm Drive managed by Sheila Dew
  • Tuesdays     10am to noon Roll-up managed by Richard Jennings
  • Wednesdays     10am to noon various roll-ups
  • Thursdays     4 to 6pm Drive managed by Peter Hoare and team
  • Fridays     10am to noon Roll-up managed by Richard Jennings

We recently held a meeting for members interested in playing indoors next summer to find out what they would like in addition to the above.  Some of the ideas that were discussed included:

  • Entering a team into the EIBA’s summer league, Fantastic Fives.  This is a mixed league that is played against other indoor clubs on a Home and Away basis with 5 players in a team – 3 of one gender and 2 of     another.  Matches consist of 12 ends of Singles and 8 ends of Fours     followed by 10 ends of 3-wood Pairs and 10 ends of 2-wood Triples. To enter a team, we would need to register a team of up to 14 members – 7 men and 7 women.  Having checked with the EIBA, we would probably be put into a pool where we would play 2 teams from Clarrie Dunbar and a team from West Berks, which would give us 6 games to be arranged.
  • A Tuesday evening Singles League (for summer months only) at 7pm where players enter as a team, and as with other leagues, are responsible for who plays.  There will be 2 games per night, consisting of 2x 6-end sets with a one end tie-break, if needed.  No markers, jack is placed by the person winning the end.
  • Finally, we would like to know if there is an appetite for another Drive for playing Triples and/or Australian Pairs.  This would take place at another time in addition to what is currently offered and we would like to know from you when would be the best time and what you might prefer to play.

To gauge members’ interest in any of the above suggestions, please see the ‘pink’ sign-up sheets on the noticeboards to the right as you walk down to the green.  If you have any other suggestions, then please let Karen and/or Dave Williams know.
