Fixtures / Outdoor Leagues
Throughout the summer we cater for all level of players with a selection of weekend friendly games through to league matches during the week. League fixtures consist of triples and four rinks’ games for men; triples for women; and a triples mixed league; all playing on a home and away basis. Ladies can also take part in Seidal fixtures; a rink format, designed to encourage new bowlers, giving them valuable experience in match play.
Members representing the club at away matches are entitled to travel expenses, if four people are travelling in the car. Mileage is usually calculated from the club. Details of the league fixtures can be found on the noticeboards.
Roll Ups
There is no charge but please check that there are free rinks on that day by looking in the outdoor rink bookings diary, located on the table in front of the office.
Club Competitions
There is a programme of club competitions that runs across the whole of the summer period. This covers men’s and women’s individual games, pairs and mixed pairs – ‘something for everyone at all levels.’ There are also fun games arranged during this period where everyone can take part and enjoy.
Notice of club competitions is posted at the beginning of the outdoor season and the entry form and fees should be handed into the office by the closing date.
The Club holds a Presentation Evening at the end of the outdoor season for competitions winners; details to be found in the Fixtures Book, noticeboard and/or website.
County / National Competitions
The club enters the double rink county competition and players are selected for this game on merit by the selection committee. One rink plays at home and the other away, both scores are totalled, the winning team progressing to the next round. The finals are played, usually at Devizes Bowls Club, at the beginning of September.
The men and women are also entered into the County Top Ten competition with the teams chosen by the selection committees. The game consists of a singles, pairs, triple and rink. There are several rounds before the finals take place at Devizes Bowls Club at the beginning of September.
In addition, all players are invited to enter individual, singles, pairs, triples and fours competitions, starting out at County level with successful players progressing to the Bowls England National Finals. Alternatively, you can try out for the County teams and hopefully be selected to play in inter-county matches.
Entry forms for the national and county level should be completed at the end of the outdoor bowling season for the following year and handed with your entry fee to the office.
Mixed Representative Matches (Outdoor Friendly Games)
Information on these fixtures can be found on the club noticeboard. The dress code for these games is club shirts and usually whites. Refreshments will be provided by the caterers after the match. For away games the club will reimburse transport costs. If playing at home, it is usual for members to arrive early for these games to help with the putting out of scoreboards, mats, jacks, pushers etc., and then returning them to the shed after the game.
